On March 25, 2020 the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta announced that with the approval of the Law Society of Alberta and until further notice, affidavits for use in civil and family proceedings can be commissioned remotely using video technology.
The Court’s announcement contains specific requirements that must be followed and should be referenced when commissioning an Affidavit remotely. The commissioner is required to sign a certificate stating that the commissioner was satisfied that the process was necessary because it was impossible or unsafe, for medical reasons, for the person signing the affidavit and the commissioner to be physically present together.
